Mice

Mice are good pets. They are are inexpensive and don't take up alot of room.

Housing

Mice are sociable animals so it is best to keep them in pairs or small groups. Either males or females.

You can keep your mice in a glass aquarium with a good lid or in a mouse cage   (Never put your mouse in a hamster cage. They can squeeze through the bars!)

The bottom of the cage or tank should be lined with woodshavings. Always buy woodshavings from the pet shop. Cages and tanks should be cleaned once a week.

Feeding

You mouse can be fed with a hamster mix, this will provide your mouse with all the vitamins and minerals he needs. Your mouse will also enjoy some fruit and veg added to their diet. Aways introduce fruit and veg gradually as too much may give your mouse diarrhea and only give as much as they will eat as fresh food will soon become mouldy. Any uneaten food should be discarded daily. A good sturdy food bowl is also needed. Your mouse will also need a fresh supply of water so you will need a water bottle.

There are also loads of toys and treats available at pet shops which your mouse will enjoy.

Handling

Leave your new pet a couple of days to get used to their surroundings before you begin to handle him. Start by talking to him and put your hand in the cage to get him used to your smell when you are ready to pick up your mouse make a cup with your hand and slowly and gently scoop him up. Mice are quite quick so be careful when you first begin handling.

If you handle your mouse everyday they will soon become tame.
